Leona Mildred Cutliff, 98, of Buhler, KS, passed away at 11:10 a.m., Thursday, January 2nd, 2020 while in the company of family members, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community.
Leona was born on her parents homestead, rural Canton, Kansas on March 19, 1921, a daughter of Minnie C. (Groneman) and William L. Thies.
She attended school at the Immanuel Lutheran school, south of Canton, Kansas
She was a charter member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church McPherson, KS and grew up in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, south of Canton.
Leona was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She also worked for Dillon’s in McPherson at both stores as a Cashier for many years.
Leona M. Thies was united in marriage to Evert R. Cutliff. Evert died in 1987.
She is survived by her son, Barry Cutliff and wife Susan, of Vacaville, California; her sister, Esther Beltz and husband Rev. Dewyth, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her two grandchildren, Michael A. Hardy and Gregory S. Hardy; her five great-grandchildren, Gregory Scott Hardy, Summer Hardy, Stephen Hardy, Isaac Hardy, and Theresa Hardy; other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Evert Cutliff; her brothers, Alfred, Albert, and Arthur Thies; and a grandson, Jeremy Allen Hardy.
Memorial service will be held at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3rd, 2020 with Chaplain LeNora J. Duerksen officiating.
Glidden – Ediger Funeral Home was in charge of the cremation.
