On January 22, 2022, Lillian Faye Baier, 88, passed peacefully to her Savior’s arms at Salina Presbyterian Manor. Lillian Haberer was born February 2, 1933, to Rudolph and Olinda Haberer on a farm in Russell County, Kansas. She spent her childhood growing up on a farm during the Depression, and had many stories about the kindness, courage, and resilience of her family and parents during those difficult years. Lillian had those traits throughout her life. She graduated from Russell High School, a valedictorian, in her class of 1950. She was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Kansas. Too poor to attend college, she went to work as a secretary in Russell. Lillian met Robert Baier over a piece of chocolate cake at the Tower Café in Russell. They married at St. John’s Lutheran Church on June 18, 1955. To this union, two daughters were born, Jennifer Roesner and Susanne Syring (Randy). Lillian devoted her life to her home and family. She brought her skills as a cook, seamstress, crafting, and a passion for reading and music. Every new venture she did was done to perfection. Her hobbies included making beautiful greeting cards and photography. Lillian adored her granddaughters and great granddaughters. She was called “Nonie”.
She is survived by Lauren Knitter (Joe) of Tuscon, Arizona, Megan Gibbons (Daniel) of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Kaitlyn Neufeld (Brian) of Montrose, Colorado, and Alexandria Roesner of Salina; great-grandchildren, Lily Knitter, Amelia, and Emmeline Gibbon; a sister, Wilmetta Libal and a sister-in-law, Marian (Bob) Russell.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Bob, her parents, and a brother, Rudolph Haberer II.
Lillian will always be remembered for her deep and steadfast love for her family and friends. She will always be our “Nonie”..
A private family graveside memorial service is planned. Memorials may be sent to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Salina, KS.
