Madeline “Janice” Demars, age 92, left this earthly life on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at Mount Joseph Senior Village, Concordia. She was born on November 17, 1927 in Kackley, Kansas to C. Lester and Lola (Bishop) Houghton.
Madeline graduated from Jamestown High School, Jamestown, Kansas in 1945. She moved to Concordia, Kansas to work at Fairmont Foods and later at the Chamber of Commerce. Madeline later worked for the Aurora Post Office for many years. She was also a homemaker and most of all a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She married Clarence Dale Demars on May 20, 1947 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia, Kansas. Madeline and Dale made their home and raising their family in Aurora, Kansas, later moving to Concordia.
She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, previously the St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Aurora, and Women of the Moose Lodge #1428, VFW #588 Ladies Auxiliary both of Concordia.
Madeline is survived by her 3 daughters, Jane Demanette (Roger), Concordia, KS; Pamela Huber (Bob), Concordia, KS; Linda Begnoche (Gary), Aurora, KS; a son, Richard Demars, (Mary), North Richland Hills, TX; 9 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, sisters, Dorothy Sharpe, Clyde, KS; Rosalie Grounds, Concordia, KS; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, parents, C. Lester and Lola, grandson, Kelly Huber, 2 sisters, Vivian Almon and Audrey Hayden and a brother Charles Houghton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, in Aurora, Kansas, with Fr. David Metz officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Aurora.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020 from 1-8 pm with a Vigil service held at 5:30 pm led by Fr. David Metz. The family will greet friends after the vigil all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.
