Mary Elvina (Armstrong) Laas passed away October 14, 2022.  Mary was born February 22, 1928, in Gypsum, Kansas to Robert Armstrong and Ruth (Mortimer) Armstrong.  She was united in marriage to Elmer Fred Laas on November 9, 1947.  They spent their married life farming near Brookville, Kansas.

Mary was the oldest of 10 children and never met a stranger.  In addition to helping with the farm and raising 5 children, she worked at the Brookville Hotel for 43 years, both as a waitress and a hostess.

Mary is survived by her children, Anita Phye (Fred), Larry, Becky Senger, Carol Augustine (David Simmons) and Doug (Renee).  Siblings: Jennie George, Betty Harden, Charlene Walker, Robert Armstrong and Joe Armstrong, 11 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, daughter in law, Cheryl Laas, son in laws, Dale Augustine and David Senger, siblings: Elaine Bacon, Shirley Clanton, Fern Bledsoe, and Kay Lebert.

Visitation will be held at Ryan Mortuary in Salina from 4 to 8 PM with family present from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday, October 19.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, October 20 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Salina. Burial will follow at Bavaria Cemetery.

Memorials are designated to Ell-Saline USD 307, Bavaria Cemetery or to the donor’s choice.
