Melvin L. Wood, 76, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024. He was born in Battle Creek, Michigan to Donnie and Carol Wood.
Melvin served three tours in Vietnam and retired from the National Guard. He met Karen while serving at Fort Riley in 1971. They have lived the last 52 years in Kansas.
He worked in the manufacturing field as a painter and retired from Power Ad 14 years ago. Prior to his death, he worked part time at Dillons on Planet Avenue. Woody (as everyone knew him) loved bowling, fishing, golfing, hunting, corn hole and playing pool with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; sons, Tony Wood (Trisha) and Jamie Wood (Jenner) all of Salina; daughter, Lori Voight (Craig) of Freedom, Wisconsin; brothers, Maynard Wood (Darlene) of Wellington, Kansas, Dwain Wood (Karyn) of Helena, Montana; and sister, Dorothy Wagner of Paulding, Ohio; grandchildren, Carissa Sommerlund (Joe), Tyler Wood (Kelssey), Trevor Wood (Peyton), Trey Wood (Kashia), and Livianna, Alexia and Elizabeth all of Salina, Jacob Wood of Junction City, Trent Wood (Schai) of Chapman, Kansas, Alexis Liles and Allie Voight of Freedom, Wisconsin; great-grandchildren, Adlee and Wesley (Carissa), Axell and Axten (Tyler), Zaida (Trey), and Willow (Trent).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donnie and Carol Wood; brothers, Mike and Donnie; and sister, Mary.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 17th all at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Inurnment will follow in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.
