Michael Lane Berkgren

Michael Lane Berkgren, son of Larry and Gayla Berkgren was born on February 19, 1970 in Oakley, Kansas where he lived his best life. He passed away on April 3rd, 2025 at the age 55.

He graduated from Oakley High School where he played football and wrestled, winning two state wrestling titles his junior and senior year. He then went to wrestle at Colby Community College for two years. There he started amazing friendships that lasted his entire lifetime. Continuing forward with his education, he attended Fort Hays State University and graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Business. During his time at Fort Hays State University, he continued creating new relationships. Following college, he married Teri and they started their life together in Oakley, Kansas where they had three wonderful children, Jason, Jenna, and Jaime.

They continued their journey in Oakley raising their children and had so many memories throughout his life from growing their family, building his business, and enjoying the day to day life. He was the hardest working man known; he worked hard and played even harder. Not only was he a great dad and provider but also their hero. We were inspired by his drive to never settle.

In his second chapter, Mike and Chelsey started their life together with Jorgan and Jonnee. They continued to farm, harvest, work side by side with cattle, trucking, and all the chores in between. On the small breaks between work, they enjoyed traveling and making memories in casinos and on the beach.

Mike had many great times in his life but his favorites were spending time with his children and grandson. Some of those times were spent at sporting activities, family trips, coaching, sharing his love for farming. In every aspect of his life he shared his life long wisdom and light and had the biggest heart and was a joy to every person he met.

Survivors include: son Jason and his wife Morgan Berkgren with grandson Brody Berkgren, and daughters, Jenna Berkgren and Jaime Berkgren with her fiancé Anthony Colangelo, parents, Larry and Gayla Berkgren, wife, Chelsey Schiltz with children Jorgan and Jonnee Schiltz, sister, Tara and husband Mark Temaat and their family. He was preceded in death by grandparents: Floyd and Pearl Samuelson, Gerald and Edith Berkgren, and his uncle, Dale Samuelson.

His mind never rested even throughout the night and now he is finally at rest. In his memory, we will work hard, dream big, and continue to make our dreams come true. We will never forget the lessons and memories we have from Mike and he’ll never stop being proud of the life he lived and the people he loved.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 9th, 2025 at Gateway Fellowship, Oakley, with Pastor Kyle Bloom, officiating. The visitation will be held Tuesday, April 8th, from 5:00pm – 7:00pm at Gateway Fellowship.
