Myrna Smith passed away Feb. 17th at the age of 99 years and 2 days. She was born Feb. 15th, 1923, in Miltonvale, Kansas to Ed and Blanche (Fosdick) Paronto.
At the age of 5, the family moved to Wakeeney Kansas and resided there until 1939 and then returned to Miltonvale Kansas. Myrna graduated from Miltonvale Rural High school in 1942, then continued her education at Brown Mackie College. She was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone as an operator until 1953. During this time of employment, Myrna was introduced to her husband, Charley Smith, a lineman also employed by SWB. Myrna also worked for a lumber company in Salina, as well as Wyatt Manufacturing and Great Plains Manufacturing. After retiring, she continued part time employment at these locations: Salina Regional Health Center formerly known as Asbury Hospital, YWCA and KACCRRA.
She enjoyed playing softball for company teams and bowling at state tournaments. One of her greatest hobbies was sewing, in which she sewed many of her own clothes as well as clothes for her son, wife and granddaughters. Making several of the granddaughter’s formal dresses. Myrna also loved to garden, making the best pickles around.
Myrna is survived by her only son, Michael, and his wife Rhonda of Salina. Granddaughter, Kerry Miles of Kansas City. Granddaughter and caregiver Joey Smith of Salina. Great granddaughter Kylie Meyers of Smolan. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many friends that came to love her as grams.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Frances (WWII), sisters Lorena, Leah, Beth, and their husbands.
There will be no funeral service and cremation was chosen at her request. A celebration of her life will be held 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday March 5, 2022, at the V.F.W.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Myrna Smith to be designated at a later date in care of Ryan Mortuary.
