Nelson A. Newell, 74, of Salina, Kansas passed away June 1, 2021.
Nelson was born August 5, 1946 in Rooks County, Kansas to Emile and Alfreda Newell and was one of eight children.
Nelson was drafted and served his country in the US Army for 2 years. After his honorable discharge in 1970, he purchased a new Chevelle, that he proudly drove, ran, and showed whenever possible. He married Robin (Justus) September 15, 1973 and started a family in Salina. Nelson retired from Philips Lighting in 2006.
He was active with many organizations including Boy Scouts, TREA, and Thursday Night Cruisers of Salina. Nelson enjoyed visiting with friends, watching nearly every sport, both college and professional, and spending time with family.
Nelson is preceded in death by his parents, Emile and Alfreda; wife, Robin; siblings, Annette, Duane, Kenny, Lavinia, and Leroy; and grandson, Marcus Graham.
He is survived by Anthony (Michelle) Newell, Jamie Newell; granddaughter, Megan Graham; great grandson, Dawson Mason; siblings, Harriett and Janet, as well as a very large group of extended family and loving friends.
The family will be receiving visitors Monday, June 7 from 4-8 pm at Ryan Mortuary, rosary will begin at 6 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral with Father Fred Gatschet as celebrant, meal directly following on site at The Hall of Bishops, with burial at 1 p.m. at Gypsum Hill Cemetery.
The family suggest a memorial in-lieu of flowers to be made in Nelson’s name to the Salina VFW.
