Norman J. Boettcher, age 85, of Bennington, KS, passed away on Sat., Jan. 26, 2019 at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis, KS. Norman was born on Aug. 13, 1933 in Springview, NE to Norman K. & Olga K. (Johnson) Boettcher.
Norman graduated from high school in Newport, NE and then from Wayne State Teacher’s College, Wayne, NE. He married Lois Claycamp on Feb. 9, 1957 in Concordia, KS.
Norman taught school for 2 years in Iowa. He began his over 40 year career with Boy Scouts of America in Concordia, KS, serving several councils throughout the Midwest until his retirement from the BSA National office in Irving, TX. Norman was instrumental in establishing the Museum of Scouting in Salina, KS.
Norman was a member of the United Church of Bennington; the Central Kansas District Master Gardeners, National Birmingham Roller Club and American Brittany Club.
Norman loved hunting, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, Bennington; son, Norman Gary Boettcher, Clay Center; daughters, Susan Schwaiger (Mark), Solomon & Karen Meyer (Larry), Derby; brother, Ronald Boettcher (Rona), Hot Springs Village, AR; 10 grandchildren & 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary V. Boettcher.
Funeral services will be 11:00am, Wed., Jan. 30, 2019 at the United Church of Bennington, Bennington with Pastor Rev. Ever Mudambanuki. Burial will be later that day at Walnut Grove Cemetery, east of Concordia. Visitation will be Tues., Jan. 29, 2019 from 1- 8 pm with family greeting friends from 6-7 pm at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia. The family suggests memorials to the Museum of Scouting, 1100 W.
