Patricia Bernadine Anne “Pat” Barnthson

Patricia Bernadine Anne “Pat” Barnthson, 90, of Emporia, Kansas, passed away at 8:07 a.m., Saturday, July 21st, 2018 peacefully with family at her side, at Holiday Resort, Emporia, Kansas.

Pat was born in Salina, Kansas on May 26, 1928, a daughter of Clara Marie (Shanahan) and Arthur Gilbert Schwartz.

Pat attended the Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Salina, Kansas in 1946.

She was a member of Harmony Christian Church McPherson, KS when she lived in Galva.

Pat was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. Pat later worked for H&R Block as a Tax Preparer in St. Louis, Missouri.

Pat was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s for a few years in St. Louis, Mo. She enjoyed singing in the Church choir where ever she was a member “The family moved a lot!”. Pat loved raising her children and had the opportunity and privilege to raise a nephew too. Pat enjoyed sewing, and made several wedding dresses for family members among other things, such as quilts and alike.

Pat was united in marriage to Harold E. Barnthson, Sr. on June 15, 1947 in Columbus, Kansas by the Justice of the Peace at the Court House. Harold died on March 30, 1999.

Pat is survived by her children, Harold E. Barnthson Jr. and wife Anita, of Arlington, Texas, Shirley Dingler and husband Maurice, of Emporia, Kansas, Terry McGuire and husband Duane, of Birmingham, Alabama, and Kevin Haywood and wife Linda, of Cedar Park, Texas; her 8 grandchildren, Craig Barnthson and wife Shannon, Patrick Barnthson and wife Bethany, Laura Hoffman and husband Steven, Andrew Barnthson and wife Jennifer, Eugene Dingler and wife Elizabeth, April Dingler, Bridget Hopewell, and husband Duncan, and Andra Haywood; her 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold; 5 sisters, Mary Marcum, Frances “Franny” Robertson, Margaret “Peggy” O’Rourke, Barbara “Bobby” Schwartz, and Agnes “Fuzzy” Avila; her brother Pete Schwartz.

Graveside service will be held at McPherson Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24th, 2018 with Pastor Kevin Haywood officiating.
