Rex Alan Echer

Rex Alan Echer 67, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 29, 1953 at Ellsworth Hospital to Joe and Claudine (Brichacek) Echer of Lucas, Kansas.

He attended Luray Schools graduating in 1971 and continued on to Hutchinson Community Junior College completing courses and graduating in 1973. In June 1973, Rex began his lifetime career of car sales beginning with Jim Sullivan Chevrolet in Salina and then with Don Hattan Chevrolet in Wichita. In 1984 he started The Car Shoppe which he and his wife continue to own today.

On December 29th, 1973 he married Deanna Parsons and they made their home in Salina. Rex loved cars and trucks of any age and it shows in the two that he cherished; his 1969 Chevrolet Camaro and the 1946 Dodge pickup. He served his community through participating on many boards including the Salina Credit Bureau, Kansas Independent Automobile Association, Pheasants Forever and the list goes on.

Rex was a Sporting Clays enthusiast and traveled to compete in shotgun sports in Kansas and several other states. He was a Master Class Shooter and also a Level III Instructor for Shotgun Sports. He loved teaching the sport as much as competing with his friends. He leaves his wife, Dee of the home; a daughter, Brooke (Mitchel) Lacy of Assaria; and a son, Scott Echer of Assaria; grandchildren, Jackson Echer, and Paige and Taelyn Lacy; his brother, Steve Echer (Renie Green), Salina and sister, Kristy (Kent) Brown of Wichita; aunts, Lois Brichacek of Great Bend, and Evelyn Brichacek of Salina, and Robert and Jody Hart of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Gayle Echer Cline and great niece, Taylor Patterson, both of Woodstock, Georgia.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday in the Lucas Cemetery, Lucas, Ks. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 pm Tuesday afternoon at Gypsum Valley Sporting Clays, 7702 S. Niles Rd, Gypsum, Ks. Friends may call at the Ryan Mortuary on Monday from 4 until 8 pm where the family will receive friends from 5 until 8 pm that evening. Memorials are suggested to a fund to support families in need of medical related assistance for cancer suffers, in care of the Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
