Richard K. “R.K.” Miller, 84, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 4:27 p.m., Friday, March 8th, 2019 while in the company of family members, at McPherson Hospital.
R.K. was born in McPherson, Kansas on October 1, 1934, a son of Thomas Samuel and Bessie Arlene (Anderson) Miller.
R.K attended Roxbury Elementary School and graduated from Roxbury High School, Roxbury, Kansas in 1952.
Through the years R.K. worked for Pyle Construction as an excavator, then started his own company R.K. Miller Construction in McPherson, Kansas. Later on he drove tour buses for Village Tours and Charter, Wichita, Kansas. In the meantime he also worked for Piping Technology as a line locator, before he retired in 2010.
R.K. enjoyed, golfing, traveling, shuffleboard, Mexican Train Dominoes, watching all sports, especially Bullpup Basketball and spending time with his family and harassing his friends.
R. K. Miller was united in marriage to Morene Kay Zimmerman on June 18, 1953 in Durham, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of four children, two daughters and two sons, Cindy, Steven, Marlane and Kyle. Morene passed away on February 28, 1999. R.K was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Kaiser on August 11, 2001 in McPherson, Kansas. The couple established their first home together in McPherson.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Miller, of McPherson, Kansas; his children, Cindy Leech and her husband Dale, of Litchfield Park, Arizona, Marlane Shandy and her husband Kirk, of McPherson, Kansas, and Kyle Miller, of Raymore, Missouri; step-children, Pam Herl and her husband Dan, of Raymore, Missouri, Steve Kaiser and his wife Kathy, of Great Bend, Kansas, and Randy Kaiser and his wife Michelle, of Hoisington, Kansas; siblings, Opal Specker, of Monte Vista, Colorado, Ken Miller and his wife Beth, of Salina, Kansas, and Rachel Johnson, of McPherson, Kansas; grandchildren, Andy Leech, Travis Leech, Kelsey Leech(De’Maris Parker), Andrew Shandy(Melissa), Esther Osornio(Polo), Madison Shandy, Tara Fraser(Hugh) and Sara Dougherty(Jacob); step-grandchildren, Timothy Detter, Derik Detter, Brianna Buller(Shaun), Sarah Wilson(Christian), Katelyn Kaiser, Cara Moore(Brady) and Jeffery Kaiser and great-grandchildren – Emma, Bella, Lexi, Ki’Lynne, Dakota and Alex; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
R. K. was preceded in death by his parents; wife Morene Miller; infant son Steven Miller; brother Robert “Little Tom” Miller and sister Shirley Unruh.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Glidden – Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas.
The final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.
