Robert D. Conley, 93, of Salina, died Thursday, December 21, 2023. He was born December 19, 1930, near Gypsum and was the first child of Dale and Fern (Mortimer) Conley.
He attended rural Gypsum elementary schools and graduated from Gypsum High School. He attended Kansas Wesleyan University and Fort Hays State University. Bob served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
Bob would say his absolutely best decision was marrying his beloved wife, Doris Lauxman Conley on July 5, 1959, in the Carlton Presbyterian Church. They farmed together and raised registered Angus cattle in the Gypsum community for over 60 years.
Bob was on the Kansas Angus Association board of directors, serving as President in1983. He was also on the Dickinson County Rural Water Board, D. S. and O Rural Electric Board and Southeast of Saline School Board, serving as President one year. He was especially proud of serving on the school board that helped build the new K-12 consolidated school building which was completed in 1978.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, his parents, and two brothers, Dwight Conley and Fred Conley. Survivors include two daughters, Janice Nikkel and husband Mark Nikkel, Maple Hill, and Anita Miller and her husband Joe Miller of Enterprise; and one son, Dwight Conley and wife Julie Conley, Gypsum; a sister-in-law, Ilene Conley of Smyrna, Georgia and six grandchildren; Caitlin(Kody) Lynn, Hannah(Ryan) Hahn, Kristin(Alex) Little, Drew Miller, Catherine(Wyatt)Peverley and Taylor Nikkel, and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 27th at the Gypsum Community Church with burial in the Gypsum Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 26, at the Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th Street, Salina from 6:30 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.
