Roger N. Whelchel,85, Solomon, passed away October 27, 2022 at Brookdale-Fairdale Senior Living in Salina, KS. He was born July 28, 1937 at home on Magnolia Road, Salina, KS, the son George N and Elizabeth (Weburg) Whelchel.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Chloris Chapman and Phyllis McGowan; and brothers, Kenneth Whelchel and Donald D Whelchel.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home; sons, Kevin Whelchel (Maureen) of Solomon, and Nathan Whelchel (Melissa) of Salina; daughters, Brenda Whelchel-Bayless (Steve) of Topeka, and Kala Wood (F. David) of Solomon; seven grandchildren, Kate McCluskey (Ryan) of Shawnee, Ryan Whelchel (Emily) of Fisher’s, IN, Keith Whelchel (Sydney), Trenton Wood, Drew Wood, Matthew Whelchel, and Ashley Whelchel of Salina; and two great-grandchildren, Molly Whelchel of Salina and Eleanor McCluskey of Shawnee.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Interment will be later that day at Grand Center Cemetery, Waldo. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov 3, at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. that evening.

Memorials may be made to the family for nursing scholarships, to Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.
