Roy A. “Peck” Hayden, 70, of Salina, Kansas passed away November 12, 2020. Peck was born in Salina, Kansas on September 29, 1950. He graduated from Central High School and then went on to enlist in the United States Air Force. Peck was a man of many talents, during his lifetime he was a card dealer in Las Vegas, he was a Reserve Officer for the Salina Police Department, he worked for Exide, El Dorado and Crestwood.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Tommie and Dorothy Pexa; three siblings, brothers Phillip and Donnie Schaeffer and sister Tulsa Greene. Roy is survived by his wife of 31 years, Debbie; his sister, Cheryl; his stepchildren, Chad (Tracy) Eklund and Brandy Gillespie; 9 grandchildren (Chelsea, Abby, Seth, Chance, Riley, Zaden, Alyssa, Natalie and Todd.) Nephew, Rickie Bowman; and niece, Michelle (Harrison) McWhorter all of Salina, Kansas and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Roy was a storyteller! He enjoyed having an audience. He loved to make his family and friend laugh. Never was there a dull moment when Peck was around. He would not rest until he got a smile out of you! Peck loved people, period. We could not go anywhere without him randomly striking up a conversation with someone he did not know.
Peck loved to cook for his family, everyone raved about his homemade egg rolls, a batch of 80 would be gone within the day! He loved fishing, hunting and cheering on his CHIEFS! He was a huge fan and never missed a game. Peck’s true passion was woodworking and restoration, he would be given a piece of furniture and he would work his magic giving this piece a new life. Peck will be sorely missed but we will go on knowing he is once again able to WALK beside his family and friends into the loving arms of GOD.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday December 4, 2020. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 5th, all at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
