Ruby Alice Howie was born November 9, 1922 in Hope, Kansas the daughter of L.B. and Myrtle May (Thomas) Stants. She graduated from Abilene High School and was the office manager for Memorial Hospital for several years and then a bookkeeper of Modern Plumbing before retiring.

On December 6, 1941 Ruby married Wilbur L. Maddy. They later divorced. She then married James E. “Jim” Howie on July 21, 1961 in Abilene.

Survivors include her son Steve Maddy of Abilene; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jim on January 1, 2001, her daughter Judy Kimble, and her infant sister.

Ruby’s family has selected cremation and there will be no service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chapman Valley Manor Resident Activity Fund and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.
