Russell Lynne Patrick Walters, 62, died Feb. 11, 2020. He was born Aug. 16, 1957 to Billy Lee and Mary (Esperanza) Walters.
Russell graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1976. He worked for Tony’s Pizza for several years then joined the workforce of Beechcraft in 1979. He retired in 2011 after 35 years of service after working at the Salina and Wichita facilities specializing in wing manufacture and assembly. He loved working for Beech Aircraft and was a union steward and very knowledgeable of Beech family and company history. He loved searching for Beech memorabilia and had a large collection of posters, pictures, ads and models and anything with a Beechcraft logo.
He had a passion for cooking Mexican food and was known by many to cook for gatherings. There was a long list of persons who asked for his services including many local friends and some famous persons like Barry Sanders and John Starks. Russell was an avid KU Jayhawk and Kansas City Chiefs fan. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his siblings; Mary Diane (Chris) Albert, Gordon Ray Walters, Eric Alan Walters, and Timothy (Cheryl) Walters; his beloved dog, Jack; and nieces and nephews; Ami, Justin, Whitney, Tyler, Bryanne, Tony, Jennifer, Michael, R.J., Elijah, Alicia, and Sophia.
There will be a Memorial Funeral Vigil at 6:00 pm Friday evening, Feb. 21, 2020 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020 at the Cathedral. Inurnment will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish.
