Ruth Marie McEntee (Garlock), age 78 of Burr Oak, Kansas, passed away Monday, November 11, 2019 at the Belleville Health Care Center, Belleville, Kansas. She fought a courageous battle with cancer and other health issues in the past year.

Ruth was one of 13 children born on September 28, 1941 to the late Vern and Wilma (Bennett) Garlock in Courtland, Kansas. As a teenager she moved to Kansas City, Missouri to live with an older sister and attended Westport High School while helping the family. She was a waitress for Thompson’s and Connie’s Kansas City restaurants. She was loved and adored by customers. While working at Kats’ Drug store she met her husband, Edward McEntee. They were married April 18, 1960 and had 5 children. A loving mother and homemaker, Ruth was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. She was a talented seamstress and made beautiful draperies and curtains for customers. In retirement she and her husband traveled. She will be remembered for her kindness, sweetness and wonderful sense of humor.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Edward McEntee and her infant son, David McEntee, 4 brothers, Gerald, Jack, Myron, and Gary Garlock, 4 sisters, Thelma Key, Joan Rogers, Marjorie Hoffman, and Judy Hayes.

Ruth is survived by her 4 children Wanda Young (Dan), Overland Park, KS.; Jo McEntee (Nancy), Kearney, NE; Rick McEntee (Sheila), Burr Oak, KS; and Julie McEntee & Larry Havens, Burr Oak, KS.; 10 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren, 4 sisters, Beth Riley, KC. MO.; Darlene Garst (Paul), Mankato, KS.; Shirley Elsner (Bill), Stetsonville, WI.; Janie Jo Sheets (Wendell), Chapel Hill, NC.; Ruth loved and adored her family.

A visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 15, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with family receiving friends after the Rosary Service. A Parish Rosary will be held 7:00 p.m., Nov. 15, 2019 all at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Mankato, Kansas with Fr. Damien Richards officiating. Burial will follow at the Burr Oak Cemetery in Jewell County, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to Meadowlark Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
