Sil Weber, 92 years old, passed away peacefully on March 27 surrounded
by his family.
Sil was born October 26. 1926 in Park, Kansas to Jakob and Rosa Weber.
He was the 10th of 13 children.
Sil grew up on the family farm and served in the Navy during WWII.
Following his Naval service he worked for many years at St. John’s
Hospital while also managing the Salina Interparochial Credit Union
for 43 years. He retired from the Credit Union at age 80.
Sil and his wife Esther lived in Brookville, KS after they married and
in 1958 moved to Salina. Together they managed a 2,000 laying hen
farm until 1976.
Sil was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and later St. Elizabeth’s
Parish in Salina. He was a lifetime 4th Degree member of the Knights
of Columbus, the VFW and the American Legion. Sil loved baseball;
pitching for the K of C team and coaching little league. His joy was
dancing, playing cards and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Esther of almost 70 years, children Ruth
Ann Evel (Ron), Verla Hoffman (Frank), Fr. Keith Weber, Norma Knipp
(Mike), Duane Weber (Bonnie), 6 grandchildren and 3 great
grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Meier and Maggie Gassman and one
sister-in-law Katie Weber. He was preceded in death by his daughter,
Kathleen, his parents and all other siblings and their spouses.
He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and
compassionate spirit.
Visitation is Friday, March 29 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Ryan Mortuary,
with the family present from 6:00-8:00pm. Rosary will be prayed at
7:00pm. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, March 30
at 11:00am at St. Elizabeth’s church, 1000 Burr Oak Lane, with burial
in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials can be made for Masses or to St.
Elizabeth’s Parish or to Catholic Charities.
