Virgil Eugene Blacker, 90, of Kingman, Kansas, passed away at 1:15 a.m., Saturday, April 7th, 2018, at Cheney Golden Age Home, Cheney, Kansas.
Virgil was born in Wray, Colorado on March 24, 1928, a son of Edith Lola (Peavler) and Roy E. Blacker.
Virgil attended Wray elementary schools and graduated from Wray High School, Wray, Colorado in 1946.
He honorably served in the U.S. Navy as a PH3 in the Korean War.
Through the years Virgil worked as a Estimator for San Ore Construction Company, McPherson, Kansas and Klaver Construction Company, Kingman, Kansas.
Virgil was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 and was a former member of the Elks Lodge #502.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis Blacker, of Kingman, Kansas, his children Kelli McCormick and her husband Joseph, of Celina, Texas, Kyla Eller and her husband Jeff, of North Richland Hills, Texas, Kent Blacker and his wife Sonya, of Carson City, Nevada and Kathleen Schierholt, of Carson City, Nevada; his 15 grandchildren – Joshua Kemp, Zachary Slyter, Alisha Fleet, Brandon Slyter, Jessica Blacker, Kaley Eller, Brooklyn Eller, Logan McCormick, Madison McCormick, Daxton McCormick, Steven Blacker, Jessica Blacker, Kevin Blacker, and Daniel Schierholt; 15 – great-grandchildren ; other relatives and a host of friends.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Raymond Blacker and Claude Blacker; his son William Kirk Slyter.
A visitation will be Friday, April 13, 2018 from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Glidden – Ediger Chapel.
A graveside Service will be at McPherson Cemetery Mausoleum Building, McPherson, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 14th, 2018 with Reverend Lynn Scott officiating. Military honors will be presented by the members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 and the American Legion Post 24, both of McPherson.
