Wayne L Holmes left us to join our Family in Heaven on January 22, 2021, in the Loving Arms of the love of his life, his wife, Collen Holmes. He was born December 6, 1935, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Wayne Sr. And Elnora Holmes.
Wayne was first and foremost, the best friend, husband, confidante, and lover to his wife, Colleen Holmes. There has never been a lifelong love like the special bond between Wayne and Colleen…as anyone can attest who ever observed them. They celebrated 53 years of marriage in October, 2020.
Wayne graduated from Central High School, Class of 1953. Following graduation, he spent one year in college at Kansas Wesleyan, and dedicated the rest of his life to being an entrepreneur.
Wayne was second generation with Wayne Holmes Basements – a Family Owned Three Generation Business started by his Father, Wayne Holmes, Sr. Over his lifetime, Wayne built 1,560 residential basements, 157 commercial and 21 public works projects. He trained his son, Robert and Supervisor, Cliff, to manage the third generation of his business in the latter period before he ascended to heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bill Holmes, and his In Laws, Heck and Maxine Booth and Lee Holmes.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Colleen, his beloved son, Robert Holmes, his beloved brother, Phil Holmes and wife, Ila, and the Johnson, Powell and Wells families.
A Visitation will be held from 10am to 5pm, Friday, Jan, 29, and a Chapel Memorial Service will be held at 1PM, Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th Street, Salina, KS, 67401. Burial will be immediately after the Chapel Memorial at Roselawn Cemetery, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina, KS.
Those who wish to remember Wayne in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Saline County Animal Shelter, 329 N 2nd Street, Salina, Kansas, 67401, Please, no flowers.
Due to Covid, private Visitation is offered on Friday, Jan. 29, in lieu of the Sat, Jan. 30, Chapel and Grave Site Service. Due to Covid there will be no Reception.

- He was an avid aviation enthusiast
- His favorite golf partner was also his wife, Colleen, who always beat him on almost every hole much to his chagrin.
