William “Bud” Hefner, age 89, died Monday, December 17, 2018 at Mt. Joseph Senior Village, Concordia, KS. He was born on Oct. 11, 1929 in rural Concordia, KS to John R. & Alice (Moore) Hefner.
He attended country school #44 rural Concordia and was a 1947 graduate of Concordia High School.
Bud served in the US Army during the Korean War as a vehicle mechanic from June 1951 – March 1953 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.
He married Della (Forgue) Grant on Nov. 3, 1979 at the Baptist Church in Concordia, Kansas.
Bud was a lifelong area resident and farmer in Cloud County community.
He was member of The Baptist Church, where he served on the Trustees Board, Finance Board and was an Usher. Bud was also a member of American Legion Post #76 & VFW #588. He served on Cloud County Co-op Board when AgMark Started, Jewell County Historical Society, Farm Management Association and Kansas Wheat Growers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Della, Concordia, KS.; step-sons, Jerry Grant (Janet), Topeka, KS.; Terry Grant (Monica), Concordia, KS.; 9 Step-grandchildren, 14 Step Great-Grandchildren, Sisters, Mary E. Smith, Concordia, KS.; Margaret Bergstrom, Courtland, KS.; Nephews, Larry Bergstrom, Terry Bergstrom, Kevin Bergstrom.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Alice, Step-son, Eric Grant.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2018 at The Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Peppers officiating. Burial with military honors by American Legion Post #76 & VFW Post #588 will follow the services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.
