Lt. Colonel Doug Dutton, pilot with the Civil Air Patrol in Salina went airborne Thursday to track the rising flood waters from the Smoky Valley to Topeka as part of an effort to assist state officials in understanding the impact of the 2019 flood.
Areas in north Salina including the Webster Conference Center are encountering rising flood waters with more rain predicted to fall during the 3-day Memorial Day weekend.
Members from the Kansas Wing of the Civil Air Patrol have been volunteering their time in several communities this week, assisting with ongoing disaster response including sandbagging in Salina, Chapman and Solomon.
The Civil Air Patrol is an all volunteer organization that is an auxilliary of the United States Air Force. The Kansas Wing headquarters are located at the Salina airport, 3010 Arnold Avenue.
