In the Girls game it took almost 5 minutes for either team to score, but the Vikings would break the seal and go on to lead 11-2 after one quarter and take a 17-11 lead into the half. And in the third quarter, both teams traded buckets and Hesston closed the gap but the Vikings held on to a 27-24 lead after 3. And in the 4th quarter never giving up the lead the Viking defense kept the pressure on Hesston and the Vikings scored just enough to come away with a 32-30 victory. Kerington Haxton led the Vikings with 12 points, 8 Vikings scored in the game to help them earn their first victory of the season.
In Boys action Hesston eked out an 11-8 lead after one quarter, stretching it to 25-19 at the half and then outscoring the Vikings 17-7 in the Third quarter to take a 32-26 lead. The Vikings then went on a 8-0 run to get the score within 8, but from there the Vikings couldn’t get any closer. Hesston won 55-41 by making free throws down the stretch. Freshman Cason Richardson scored 16 to lead the Swathers and Lane Schrag had 10 for the Vikings.
