A Kansas Department of Transportation employee driving a snow plow clearing roads was killed in a single vehicle crash.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 25-year-old Stephen Windler of Paola was driving a 2011 Freightliner State of Kansas snow plow truck.
Windler was traveling south on U.S. 69 Highway in the outside lane. For an unknown reason, he traveled to the right, traversing the shoulder and drove into the grass. The truck rotated counter-clockwise, becoming broadside as it started to tip. It overturned, emptying its salt load and ejecting the driver. The snowplow rolled 1.25 times, coming to rest on its passenger’s side, and on top of the ejected driver.
The agency says Windler died at the scene.
The crash happened early Saturday morning on U.S. 69 Highway in Johnson County, about a mile south of Stilwell, Kansas.
