A group monitoring power usage in the region is issuing a warning.

The Southwest Power Pool has issued a Level One Emergency Alert through tonight at 8:00 p.m. Emergency alerts are issued when the power pool is at risk of not meeting required operating reserves and all available resources are expected to be used.

Officials say the strain on the power grid increases the potential for outages.
