The neighborhood around downtown Wichita’s new baseball stadium will be subject to a new sales tax.

The Wichita City Council voted yesterday to approve a two-percent sales tax for businesses near the new ballpark, which opens in April.

Proceeds from the special sales tax will help offset the cost of the 75-million-dollar stadium project.
