A teenager is recovering after authorities say he was shot while trying to run away from a dangerous animal.

According to officials in Lyon County, the 16-year-old was startled while he was carrying fishing gear and a handgun yesterday near the Neosho River.

The teen then reportedly fell, causing the gun to fire and hit him in the leg.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said the teen sustained minor injuries.
