A call about a stolen SUV leads to the arrest of a Salina man.
The Saline County Sheriff’s Office reports that 26-year-old Zachariah Sharp was taken into custody on Friday morning after he allegedly abandoned one vehicle and stole another.
Deputies say a witness saw Sharp driving a 1976 Ford Ranger through fields and yards in the 4700 block of Wasserman Way Friday around 10:15am and went up to see if Sharp needed help after getting stuck near his homestead.
Sharp was able to drive away and then pulled into a property west of Salina in the 5,000 block of W. Shipton.
There he abandoned the truck and stole a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser that had the keys inside.
The owner was home and called authorities as Sharp drove away in the vehicle.
A short time later he was arrested after he got stuck in a ditch while attempting to make a U-turn.
He is now facing charges of theft, reckless driving and driving while suspended.
