New facilities and renovations of existing buildings are part of a new vision being pushed by officials at Washburn University over the next decade.

The plans, approved Thursday by the Topeka university’s board of regents, include a new building for the law school, student housing and a building to house a new welcome center.

Washburn President Jerry Farley tells the Topeka Capital-Journal the master plan will take years of fundraising and construction to bring to fruition.

Farley said the university will depend on private fundraising efforts to finance the projects. Some of the new construction on the campus could begin as early as next year.

Washburn is also partnering with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation on a new forensic science lab to alleviate problems with the state’s crime investigations.
