Two Westar Energy employees are dead following a workplace incident.

Craig Burchett of Overbrook and Jesse Henson of Manhattan suffered severe burns Sunday morning when a steam safety valve apparently failed at the Jeffrey Energy Center in St. Mary’s. The area where the victims were working was filled with hot pressurized steam.

Both victims were taken to the University of Kansas Medical Center where they died from their injuries.
